CLINIC is a works-in-progress showing of art works wherein an invited artist shows her work to a group of peers who provide feedback in a single session. Taking inspiration from Sophia Cleary's Rehearsal series and loosely following the Liz Lerman Critical Response Process, these sessions engage the participants in a structured sequence where individuals witness how they connect to one another through the art works. This structure is built around the need for a collective processing of a shared moment. As the moderator, Hercules resident artist Sophie Grant will guide the sequence and facilitate a space for feedback open to a modestly sized audience. The intention during these interactions is for the artist to gain meaningful and useful feedback that enriches the work during what may perhaps be a vulnerable stage. We meet together with the expectation of respect for the artist presenting, as well as a willingness to question both the work and our own responses to it.
