The Hercules Art|Studio Program was co-founded by Claire Weisz and Andrea Woodner to encourage and enable talented young artists to pursue their careers in New York.  It provides affordable private work studios, shared exhibition and meeting spaces, and full amenities to selected artists on a two year basis.

In addition to pursuing their own studio work, the artists are responsible for organizing exhibitions and convening engaged dialogues, critiques and reviews as part of their tenancy.

Hercules Artists are selected biannually by jury from the graduating classes of MFA programs in and around New York.  Seven top graduates from Hunter and Columbia now occupy space from 2016-2018 in the Hercules facility in lower Manhattan.

Application Process

The next round of applications are for 2018.  Applications are by invitation only.  Studios are available to recent MFA Graduates or equivalent experience such as studio assistant or apprenticeship.

While we have limited capacities at Hercules, we are pleased to share information on other programs offering affordable or subsidized artists studio spaces and residencies: ChashamaQueens Museum Artist Residency ProgramSharpe - Walentas Studio, Spaceworks, Two Trees Cultural Space Subsidy Program.
